Open Enrollment is Here, so Don’t be a Centipede

Once there was was a very lonely man named Bob. He had grown tired of the listless silence that filled his home and decided that it was time to find a companion, a pet. Not just any pet though, Bob wanted the perfect pet. He Googled late into the night. He visited pet stores, shelters and scoured the newspaper looking for the perfect pet. He finally settled. Bob’s companion was to be a centipede.

Bob took his new pet centipede home and made him as comfortable as a centipede can possibly be. He spent hours pouring his heart out to Centipede and Centipede spent hours listening. Bob grew to love Centipede very much and finally decided that the time had come to take the next step. He asked Centipede if he’d like to go out to dinner with him. Centipede didn’t answer. Bob asked again, a little louder this time. Centipede still remained silent. He grew louder with each inquiry and finally he heard a teeny tiny reply. He bent his head very close to Centipede and sure enough, Centipede was speaking… “Yes. I do” Centipede said, “just as soon as I finish putting on my shoes.”

We’ve all done it, we wait until the very last second to that important thing – to start writing the term paper due the next day, to pack just hours before takeoff. It’s all too easy to become that centipede when it comes time to something that seems intimidating or time consuming. The good news is that the sooner you begin the process of enrolling or making changes to our healthcare, the easier it will be (and of course, I’m here to help). Open enrollment is not only a very small window of time, but also falls during a busy time of year, so don’t be a centipede – get those changes done!
