It’s that time of year again—2026 Marketplace health insurance open enrollment is here!

If you purchase health insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA), this is your window to review your plan, explore new options, and make sure you have coverage that fits both your needs and your budget for 2026.

As we head into open enrollment season, here’s what you need to know.

Key Dates to Remember

  • Open Enrollment begins November 1, 2025.
  • Enroll by December 15, 2025, for coverage that starts January 1, 2026.
  • The final day to apply or make changes is January 15, 2026.

If you miss these deadlines, you’ll need to qualify for a Special Enrollment Period—usually triggered by a major life event such as losing coverage, getting married, or having a baby.

4 Things Changing for 2026

1. Enhanced Subsidies May Expire

The extra financial help that lowered monthly premiums for many Marketplace plans over the last few years is set to expire at the end of 2025, unless Congress acts to extend it.

What does this mean?

It means that your monthly cost could go up in 2026, even if you keep the same plan. If you currently receive a premium tax credit, it’s especially important to check how this change could affect your payment.

2. Premium Increases

Insurance companies across the country have filed rate increases for 2026, many in the double digits. This is due to higher medical costs, prescription expenses, and the potential rollback of federal subsidies.

The good news?

Shopping around can make a big difference. You may find more affordable coverage by comparing plans—even within the same company.

3. More Verification for Subsidies

Expect a little more paperwork this year.

The Marketplace is stepping up income and eligibility verification. Make sure your income estimate is as accurate as possible and that your application reflects your current household situation.

4. Updated Plan Benefits

Each year, plans adjust things like deductibles, copays, and network coverage. Don’t assume your plan stayed the same—review the details carefully to avoid surprises when you go to the doctor or pharmacy.

What You Can Do Right Now

  • Review your current plan. Did it meet your needs in 2025? Are your doctors in-network? Are prescriptions affordable?
  • Update your information. Verify that your income, dependents, and household details on your Marketplace account are up-to-date.
  • Compare coverage options. Even if you’re happy with your plan, a quick review could reveal better coverage or a lower price.
  • Act early. The closer it gets to December 15, the busier the system becomes—and the faster appointment times fill up.
